Consistency of Hand-Dyed Skeins
For the hand-dyed yarns we sell at Violet Green, there is a dye formula for each colourway, so that they are reproducable. However, because of the nature of hand-dyeing, the distrubtion of colours within any skein is likely to vary from lot to lot. If more than one skein of a yarn is ordered in one purchase, we will always ensure that all of the skeins are from the same lot, so that the variation will be minimal.
Mixing Skeins Together
Skeins from the same dye lot will have substantially the same dye distribution, but they will vary slightly. For this reason, we recommend that where you are using more than one hand-dyed skein of the same shade for a project, you mix the skeins in together as you knit: like knitting stripes with the same colour. Or, if you want to have some variation over the project, don't bother!
Colour-fastness of hand-dyed wools
All the hand-dyed wools we sell are professionaly dyed colour-fast items. We do recommend that you wash them separately, or with similar colours, the first time, in case there is any slight dye residue.
